I believe we are in a crisis in the world today and many people feel caught up in worry, fear and anxiety so they act out foolishly to numb their discomfort. There are more people drinking too much today, taking drugs and smoking pot than ever before in our history. There are a lot of mixed signals through the media and the entertainment world that filters into our everyday lives. Many of us have lost our ability to make sound judgment and don’t know how to differentiate between what is real and what is fantasy.

Because of all of these factors, families, children and even people in the workplace are having a hard time functioning at their optimum. Instead they are lashing out in anger, resentment and violence and feeling justified for their behavior.

Self-expression and our ability to ask questions in a healthy manner is using our higher intelligence correctly; however, knowingly harming or injuring others because of our poor behavior or attitude is destructive and wrong. If we want to live in balance and harmony within ourselves and with others, we must cultivate an open willingness to listen to the other side of the story and be tolerant of others. This is the natural progression of how life is supposed to flow. Just like the ocean waves. They all flow in harmony but each wave expresses itself in a different way. When the wave has completed its creative expression, it simply flows back to the whole. There is no violent eruption or disruptive change in there patterns. This self-expression is a natural and normal way of growing and learning. All of us need to broaden our thinking and transform it so we can realize a more pure sense of being as we filter out for ourselves a sense of meaning in our lives. Without a sense of meaning and purpose, we become ill and disjointed both individually and collectively as a world.

I believe it is time for each one of us to do a reality check. To slow down, quiet the mind and seek the guidance from within. None of us are ideally capable of helping others until we deal with our own hurts, pains and dysfunctional behavior.

This is the time to open our hearts and souls to accept and acknowledge the truth that we have the power within to achieve a life full of great joy and peaceful co-existence. It is possible when we choose to move into a consciousness that God has gifted us with, an opening to our true self and purpose.

Knowing that we cannot force another to do something they do not want to do or respond to, we certainly can lead and teach by example. Take responsibility for your actions and behavior and continue walking with love in your heart. That is a wonderful way to ignite change in the world.

The same holds true to those of you who have struggled throughout your life because of missed opportunities. You work hard day in and day out; and by the end of the year, you look back and wonder where all your money has gone, where the time has gone or perhaps why things keep happening to you over and over again.  I promise that misfortune is not out to get you. What is happening, however, is the fact that you have locked away your niche and are not using it to your best potentiality.  A good example of that is in one of my past clients. As the proverbial “starving artist”, he had worked retail management jobs for the better part of his life until he wanted to make a full-time career out of his “hobby” of painting beautiful structures on canvas. “I want to be a renowned artist like Michelangelo or Picasso,” he said. His satisfaction came from the recognition of his artwork. By the time he completed my one-on-one intuitive coaching program, he had discovered his niche. He was ready to take his ability to the next level, but it was not nearly what he thought it would be.  Let’s call him Mr. Smith… Mr. Smith decided to take night classes to finish his degree in the arts and became a teacher where he now teaches architecture and landscaping. Not only is he recognized for the great work that he does with these young adults in the community, he also gets to show others how to facilitate their own gifts to create their own useful works of art.

Of course, Mr. Smith is just one case. There are countless others, who have turned one, two or even numerous gifts into something useful, joyful and gratifying in their lives. Like Mr. Smith, they possess a unique niche but have neither discovered their gifts, nor have they sought other avenues to further their prospects with those gifts. Sometimes individuals become so focused on an idea that they do not see other paths they can take to fulfill their life dreams. This also applies to acquiring things and even people in your lives. Maybe you are trying to get the house you always wanted but it’s just not happening fast enough for you. It seems like everything is working against you to finally settle into your new abode. Or perhaps you are like Elliot Richards in the film “Bedazzled” (played by Brendan Fraser). You are trying so hard to get the love of your life that you lose sight of what might just be right around the corner for you.  From this moment on, I do not want you to focus so much on trying to get everything at once, or just get one thing – rather, I want you to say to yourself: “Everything is as it should be.” Remember, all things happen in life to help us to grow emotionally, mentally, spiritually and even professionally. When you learn to let go and let God, or simply allow the flow of the Universal Energy to guide your life, you unexpectedly will discover the niche you were intended to use and how to use it to fulfill your life’s purpose. J

As I was listening to President Obama’s speech last night he spoke on the importance of innovation and that this is what is needed in order to help our country grow.

While you are here on this earth, it is important for you to know that you are equipped with all the necessary navigational tools to survive and thrive. Unlocking the Code to your True Self

Half the struggles in life are about learning how to choose your battles wisely and to remain vigilant and persistent in doing so. The winning strategy here is not to “win the proverbial war,” but to win at what you do best and not give up in the act. Margaret Thatcher once said that you may have to fight the battle more than once to win it, and that is not only a challenge to you, but a fact in life. I cannot begin to imagine how many wonderful feats would not have been accomplished had it not been for the tenacity and determination of those talented individuals who created some of the lackluster tools that we now take for granted. Alexander Graham Bell could never have fathomed the routine use of his telephone, nor could he have ever foreseen the branches it would take in its expansion toward wireless communications. But it was his struggle to create something new and innovative that led to what we have today. It did not happen overnight, and it was not an easy feat – but his vigilance and persistence paid off in the end.

Another fine example of overcoming failures to live a purpose-filled life was a teacher by the name of Anne Sullivan. Had Sullivan ever conceded to her misgivings of trying to teach a deaf and blind girl, there never would have been such an inspirational story of going against all odds to do the seemingly impossible…but she did. Sullivan was convinced to use persistence and willpower to help develop one of the fondest motivational and heart-touching stories of all time: Helen Keller; who subsequently went on to writing and publishing 12 books, among pursuing several other lifeworks.

Of course there are many other success stories throughout the course of history. I would not have enough days in a lifetime to tell you about those who went on to overcome failures to succeed at what they did best.

What does failing in life mean to you? Have you given up on trying to succeed or have you lost one battle to fight yet another one? We live to fight another day and that is the importance of vitality. If we no longer have reason to rise above the human condition and circumstance, then we have not begun to live at all. My challenge to you is to look within yourself to discover your hidden talents so that you too, can manifest prosperity, happiness and a purpose-filled life. Failure is not a curse word, but a blessing in disguise. It is through failure that we learn to humble ourselves. It is through failure that we learn what not to do and what precisely it is we need to do in order to succeed. Failure is in virtue, the defining thread of life that enables us to see our shortcomings and discover our potentiality.

If you believe that you will fail, surely that will be the case. But the same holds true for those who believe that they will succeed. When you plant the seed of fortune in your mind and spirit, you begin to manifest blessings that have long awaited you. As we grow, we learn from our mistakes. In Walt Disney’s “The Lion King,” Rafiki swats Simba on the head with a stick. He then says to the young lion cub that the past can hurt, but that he can either run from it or learn from it. In order to conquer your future, you must first forgive yourself and release your past. Learn from your failures and move forward with your head held high and with persistence and determination in your heart. You too, can manifest a prosperous and joy-filled life once you understand that past failures are not for you to carry, but from which to learn and to discover the true essence of you and who you intend to be.

There are no real “failures” in life, after all – only valuable lessons to be learned. How we perceive our disappointments is half the work. How we react to them is the harder part of the lesson. Do you continue to struggle in your day to day routines because of past failures? It is time for you to let go of those old wounds and hurts. It is time for you to re-evaluate the choices that you have made so that you can make the right choices from this moment forward. You can no longer fail in life because as long as you never quit, you are destined for success…and that, my friends, you can take to the bank.

What actions have you determined are necessities in your life to keep you on track? If you’re pining for the straight and narrow path to success, then you must know that in order to achieve the affluence you so desire, you must love yourself first and be consistent in every one of your efforts. A few questions you must ask yourself are:

1. What is it that I really want in life?
2. How am I going to acquire these wants?
3. How much passion am I going to put behind my goals?
4. What steps do I need to take in order to achieve these goals?
5. How much time am I willing to take to get the things I want?

After you’ve considered these questions, I want you to take out a pen and paper, your laptop keyboard, or whatever else you have at your disposal and begin to jot down ideas and thoughts resolving these questions.

Sometimes, we have to make small sacrifices to create a clear passage to the lives we want to lead. While we might like owning that high-maintenance SUV; the payments might be killing us financially. Or, we’ve put several years’ time into a work position only to stay in the same spot. Are you staying in a negative personal relationship because you’ve become accustomed to arguing? Have you seen the writing on the wall?  That doesn’t mean you should allow your vehicle to get repossessed, that you should walk out of your relationship, or just outright quit your job because you’re not going anywhere. What it does mean is that you need to re-evaluate your state of affairs, and start using the tools that are available to you to make the best out of a lagging or negative situation. You are, after all, in control of your emotions and your actions. And if you are not—Why not? You cannot control the people around you. But you can control yourself…or better said, you can become the leader of your life—if that is your choice!

That being said, you must determine the necessary actions and efforts to keep your life on track. For example, if you are in a “terrible job”, you need to ask yourself if it is in fact the job that is terrible, or is it the feelings that you associate with the job that give it the appearance of being terrible. When you figure that out, that’s when you can decide what path you need to take in order to acquire a better position…or perhaps, become an entrepreneur in your own field to create real value in your life. The same holds true in relationships – both personal and professional. Relationships, just like working positions, take time, sacrifice, effort, labor, love, and communication skills. What are you doing in your life to heighten your potential and efficacy in creating and sustaining healthy bonds? And this is also spot on with professional relationships – how do you view the work you do? Would you “hire you” again? Would you want “you” working for yourself?  Think about it. Are you creating your own problems at work?

Beyond work and personal relationships, finances (or lack thereof) often take center stage on the emotional baggage train. Do any of these hypothetical statements apply to you?

• “I can’t go to the gym because I can’t afford it.”
• “I can’t take a vacation because I don’t have the money.”
• “I’d love to take you to that restaurant, but it’s too expensive.”
• “How I wish I could buy a house, but times are tough.”
• “How can Jim (or fill in the blank) afford such a nice car?”
• “I’d like to have children, but I can barely afford to pay my own bills.”
• “I’m just not lucky like that other guy.”

More than likely, we’ve all encountered one or more of the above situations.  And when we are honest with ourselves–it’s uncomfortable, too. Especially when someone asks you to accompany him (or her) and you begin concocting lame excuses as to why you can’t go. And envy is even worse. No matter how successful we become in life, someone, somewhere is going to have something bigger, better, and more expensive than you. That’s a fact. But, the good news is that you don’t have to “keep up with the Jones.” You just have to keep up with yourself – that’s it. Every action has an equal reaction. For instance, if you have made the active decision to pursue a higher position at work, what must you do to attain it? If you simply “want” the position, and do nothing to acquire it, then you will remain exactly where you are. Wanting something and doing something for that want are two entirely different means to an end: one is inaction (indecision) and the other is action (decision). How is your supervisor going to know that you want a particular position? She can’t always read your mind. Likewise, if you’ve been performing “just enough” or “not enough” at work, do you really deserve the position?

Do you have what it takes? Yes! Almost every individual has the mental, physical, emotional, and psychological capacity to achieve their hearts’ desires; unfortunately, they don’t always do it because of indecision, inaction, and complacency. We get comfortable in all of our relationships, much like we do in our own tennis shoes. We tend to overlook the holes, the wear and tear, the rips, the shredded laces…because they feel good on our feet. Eventually, our feet get soaked from the mud puddles that we sometimes have to walk through.  Even track stars have to change shoes every now and then to maintain a proper balance and performance. Like it or not, we have to toss the old shoes and buy new ones that fit us and serve us better so that the paths on which we walk will benefit us. Which path do you choose to walk upon? What sacrifices are you willing to make to create forward motion? What choices are you making for you today to promise a wealthy and happy tomorrow?

First things first: you need to ask yourself a few important questions:

• Are you ready to change your lifestyle?

• Are you ready to attract what is lacking in your personal or professional life?
• Are you ready to discover your life purpose?

Now, I want you to really think about what you most desire in life.  If your heart is set on an entirely new lifestyle, then write “lifestyle makeover” in the middle of your sphere.  Without further adieu, draw some lines extending outward from your central circle.  What types of ideas and thoughts come to your mind when you think of your lifestyle makeover?  Maybe you want to lose weight, get a new car, a new house, or a new wardrobe.  Use your imagination and sketch a sports car or a house. If you want to manifest more money in your life and attract wealth to you, you can draw dollar signs ($) and the monetary amount you’d like to acquire. Next, think of actions you can take to achieve your heart’s desires.

Reinvent your thoughts and think about what steps you need to take to design your lifestyle change.  You already have an idea about the material items that are attached to your lifestyle makeover, but what specifically, can you do to reach your goal? Perhaps a career change is in order, or maybe you could do with additional education and training to improve your odds at achieving a new profession?  What about your thought patterns?  Are you holding onto negative experiences from your past? These are all important items you will need to address on your mind map.

After you’ve created a rough draft of your mind map, find a quiet place where you can gain clarity and peace of mind to really focus on your goal. Since you already have your mind map to achieve your lifestyle makeover, this would be an excellent time to start using your blueprint for living. Begin your journey to success with a few self exploration exercises that can help you develop your intuition and your soul power. While meditation is always a good method to develop your inner wisdom, you can refer to my book, “Soul- Discovery: 9 Principles for Revealing Your Sacred Gifts” for additional techniques to fine-tune your intuitive powers.

Because you have set the wheels into motion to move towards your lifestyle makeover, you can expand your blueprint for living when you choose to remove blockages from the past. As you begin to rise above emotional distress, you create an atmosphere of positive intention.  The more positive energy you filter into your life, the more you will discover how the Universal flow of energy will work more closely and definitively with you to help you achieve success and prosperity. Not only will this influential force strengthen your power, but you will also discover that your life purpose is right before your eyes.

Recently I had a lively conversation with an elderly gentleman; who out of the blue, began telling me a little bit about his life story. The dialogue began over a young girl wearing flip-flops in less-than-warm conditions, and he light-heartedly inquired, “Are you so poor that I need to buy you a pair of shoes to keep your feet warm?”

Needless to say, he began speaking in a soft tone about his travels around the world – how at the mere age of 19 he’d served in World War II and had lost his whole battalion except he and his jeep driver (who were lucky enough to have survived); how he’d jumped over 100 times from a plane during the Vietnam war in ‘68, and about the pride he had in his son, who was now going to be a retiring colonel in the military. I recall listening to this individual with wide eyes and an open heart. As he spoke, he had a gleam in his eye and he never once complained about the troubles he had seen. He was such an inspiration, in fact, that words escaped me. As I continued to listen to this apparent widower, who was well into his late 70s, I could feel a sense of happiness – and a sense of radiance. Suddenly, it dawned on me that this man was walking with a rolling walker. I guess he noticed my catching the sight of his walker, when he said, “Yep…I got this when they had to take half my leg inVietnam,” he continued, “The docs have done all they could for me, and I’m just blessed to be here today.”

The dialogue was one of those, “I wish you could have been there” moments where others could have shared in this inspirational conversation. Getting “past the hard stuff” had apparently been his motto in life; and here he was today walking with half a leg, and never once blaming anyone or anything. I imagine that through all his trials, he had never thought of them as such. Challenges, maybe…but never bad luck. Then I began thinking about how during the entire conversation, I had never noticed his “handicap;” presumably because the man never let on that he had one.

You see, getting past the hard stuff in life is what makes us grow and learn. It’s not that God is punishing us for being who we are – He’s merely giving us a push to get us going to where we need to be in life. I never got the older man’s name, but I assume wherever he is right now, he is glowing in his radiance, and enjoying the life that God has given him. Shouldn’t we all be thankful for the life God has given us?
