I believe we are in a crisis in the world today and many people feel caught up in worry, fear and anxiety so they act out foolishly to numb their discomfort. There are more people drinking too much today, taking drugs and smoking pot than ever before in our history. There are a lot of mixed signals through the media and the entertainment world that filters into our everyday lives. Many of us have lost our ability to make sound judgment and don’t know how to differentiate between what is real and what is fantasy.

Because of all of these factors, families, children and even people in the workplace are having a hard time functioning at their optimum. Instead they are lashing out in anger, resentment and violence and feeling justified for their behavior.

Self-expression and our ability to ask questions in a healthy manner is using our higher intelligence correctly; however, knowingly harming or injuring others because of our poor behavior or attitude is destructive and wrong. If we want to live in balance and harmony within ourselves and with others, we must cultivate an open willingness to listen to the other side of the story and be tolerant of others. This is the natural progression of how life is supposed to flow. Just like the ocean waves. They all flow in harmony but each wave expresses itself in a different way. When the wave has completed its creative expression, it simply flows back to the whole. There is no violent eruption or disruptive change in there patterns. This self-expression is a natural and normal way of growing and learning. All of us need to broaden our thinking and transform it so we can realize a more pure sense of being as we filter out for ourselves a sense of meaning in our lives. Without a sense of meaning and purpose, we become ill and disjointed both individually and collectively as a world.

I believe it is time for each one of us to do a reality check. To slow down, quiet the mind and seek the guidance from within. None of us are ideally capable of helping others until we deal with our own hurts, pains and dysfunctional behavior.

This is the time to open our hearts and souls to accept and acknowledge the truth that we have the power within to achieve a life full of great joy and peaceful co-existence. It is possible when we choose to move into a consciousness that God has gifted us with, an opening to our true self and purpose.

Knowing that we cannot force another to do something they do not want to do or respond to, we certainly can lead and teach by example. Take responsibility for your actions and behavior and continue walking with love in your heart. That is a wonderful way to ignite change in the world.

I realize that during these tough economic times, some of you may think that there is no end in sight. It appears as if the world is in absolute chaos. However, it is in these challenging times when hope whispers, “try again”. Empowering yourself means not giving into the consequences or side effects of life. It means that you must accept what you cannot change, and find the courage to transform your life in the ways that you can. Like a wave, life is learning how to ride it to the end and all the while, finding joy and peace in every moment of it.

Get plugged into something positive.

With each new day that you experience, you have a real opportunity to plug your soul (and your life) into something positive – something purposeful, meaningful and sustainable. Life is not about the clothes you wear, the color of your skin, your age, or your political affiliation… it is about creating the change that you want to see in your life. What I am saying is that while others can give you a hand up, they cannot live your life for you. Get control of your daily life and your ambitions will come full circle.

Half the struggles in life are about learning how to choose your battles wisely and to remain vigilant and persistent in doing so. The winning strategy here is not to “win the proverbial war,” but to win at what you do best and not give up in the act. Margaret Thatcher once said that you may have to fight the battle more than once to win it, and that is not only a challenge to you, but a fact in life. I cannot begin to imagine how many wonderful feats would not have been accomplished had it not been for the tenacity and determination of those talented individuals who created some of the lackluster tools that we now take for granted. Alexander Graham Bell could never have fathomed the routine use of his telephone, nor could he have ever foreseen the branches it would take in its expansion toward wireless communications. But it was his struggle to create something new and innovative that led to what we have today. It did not happen overnight, and it was not an easy feat – but his vigilance and persistence paid off in the end.

Another fine example of overcoming failures to live a purpose-filled life was a teacher by the name of Anne Sullivan. Had Sullivan ever conceded to her misgivings of trying to teach a deaf and blind girl, there never would have been such an inspirational story of going against all odds to do the seemingly impossible…but she did. Sullivan was convinced to use persistence and willpower to help develop one of the fondest motivational and heart-touching stories of all time: Helen Keller; who subsequently went on to writing and publishing 12 books, among pursuing several other lifeworks.

Of course there are many other success stories throughout the course of history. I would not have enough days in a lifetime to tell you about those who went on to overcome failures to succeed at what they did best.

What does failing in life mean to you? Have you given up on trying to succeed or have you lost one battle to fight yet another one? We live to fight another day and that is the importance of vitality. If we no longer have reason to rise above the human condition and circumstance, then we have not begun to live at all. My challenge to you is to look within yourself to discover your hidden talents so that you too, can manifest prosperity, happiness and a purpose-filled life. Failure is not a curse word, but a blessing in disguise. It is through failure that we learn to humble ourselves. It is through failure that we learn what not to do and what precisely it is we need to do in order to succeed. Failure is in virtue, the defining thread of life that enables us to see our shortcomings and discover our potentiality.

If you believe that you will fail, surely that will be the case. But the same holds true for those who believe that they will succeed. When you plant the seed of fortune in your mind and spirit, you begin to manifest blessings that have long awaited you. As we grow, we learn from our mistakes. In Walt Disney’s “The Lion King,” Rafiki swats Simba on the head with a stick. He then says to the young lion cub that the past can hurt, but that he can either run from it or learn from it. In order to conquer your future, you must first forgive yourself and release your past. Learn from your failures and move forward with your head held high and with persistence and determination in your heart. You too, can manifest a prosperous and joy-filled life once you understand that past failures are not for you to carry, but from which to learn and to discover the true essence of you and who you intend to be.

There are no real “failures” in life, after all – only valuable lessons to be learned. How we perceive our disappointments is half the work. How we react to them is the harder part of the lesson. Do you continue to struggle in your day to day routines because of past failures? It is time for you to let go of those old wounds and hurts. It is time for you to re-evaluate the choices that you have made so that you can make the right choices from this moment forward. You can no longer fail in life because as long as you never quit, you are destined for success…and that, my friends, you can take to the bank.

What actions have you determined are necessities in your life to keep you on track? If you’re pining for the straight and narrow path to success, then you must know that in order to achieve the affluence you so desire, you must love yourself first and be consistent in every one of your efforts. A few questions you must ask yourself are:

1. What is it that I really want in life?
2. How am I going to acquire these wants?
3. How much passion am I going to put behind my goals?
4. What steps do I need to take in order to achieve these goals?
5. How much time am I willing to take to get the things I want?

After you’ve considered these questions, I want you to take out a pen and paper, your laptop keyboard, or whatever else you have at your disposal and begin to jot down ideas and thoughts resolving these questions.

Sometimes, we have to make small sacrifices to create a clear passage to the lives we want to lead. While we might like owning that high-maintenance SUV; the payments might be killing us financially. Or, we’ve put several years’ time into a work position only to stay in the same spot. Are you staying in a negative personal relationship because you’ve become accustomed to arguing? Have you seen the writing on the wall?  That doesn’t mean you should allow your vehicle to get repossessed, that you should walk out of your relationship, or just outright quit your job because you’re not going anywhere. What it does mean is that you need to re-evaluate your state of affairs, and start using the tools that are available to you to make the best out of a lagging or negative situation. You are, after all, in control of your emotions and your actions. And if you are not—Why not? You cannot control the people around you. But you can control yourself…or better said, you can become the leader of your life—if that is your choice!

That being said, you must determine the necessary actions and efforts to keep your life on track. For example, if you are in a “terrible job”, you need to ask yourself if it is in fact the job that is terrible, or is it the feelings that you associate with the job that give it the appearance of being terrible. When you figure that out, that’s when you can decide what path you need to take in order to acquire a better position…or perhaps, become an entrepreneur in your own field to create real value in your life. The same holds true in relationships – both personal and professional. Relationships, just like working positions, take time, sacrifice, effort, labor, love, and communication skills. What are you doing in your life to heighten your potential and efficacy in creating and sustaining healthy bonds? And this is also spot on with professional relationships – how do you view the work you do? Would you “hire you” again? Would you want “you” working for yourself?  Think about it. Are you creating your own problems at work?

Beyond work and personal relationships, finances (or lack thereof) often take center stage on the emotional baggage train. Do any of these hypothetical statements apply to you?

• “I can’t go to the gym because I can’t afford it.”
• “I can’t take a vacation because I don’t have the money.”
• “I’d love to take you to that restaurant, but it’s too expensive.”
• “How I wish I could buy a house, but times are tough.”
• “How can Jim (or fill in the blank) afford such a nice car?”
• “I’d like to have children, but I can barely afford to pay my own bills.”
• “I’m just not lucky like that other guy.”

More than likely, we’ve all encountered one or more of the above situations.  And when we are honest with ourselves–it’s uncomfortable, too. Especially when someone asks you to accompany him (or her) and you begin concocting lame excuses as to why you can’t go. And envy is even worse. No matter how successful we become in life, someone, somewhere is going to have something bigger, better, and more expensive than you. That’s a fact. But, the good news is that you don’t have to “keep up with the Jones.” You just have to keep up with yourself – that’s it. Every action has an equal reaction. For instance, if you have made the active decision to pursue a higher position at work, what must you do to attain it? If you simply “want” the position, and do nothing to acquire it, then you will remain exactly where you are. Wanting something and doing something for that want are two entirely different means to an end: one is inaction (indecision) and the other is action (decision). How is your supervisor going to know that you want a particular position? She can’t always read your mind. Likewise, if you’ve been performing “just enough” or “not enough” at work, do you really deserve the position?

Do you have what it takes? Yes! Almost every individual has the mental, physical, emotional, and psychological capacity to achieve their hearts’ desires; unfortunately, they don’t always do it because of indecision, inaction, and complacency. We get comfortable in all of our relationships, much like we do in our own tennis shoes. We tend to overlook the holes, the wear and tear, the rips, the shredded laces…because they feel good on our feet. Eventually, our feet get soaked from the mud puddles that we sometimes have to walk through.  Even track stars have to change shoes every now and then to maintain a proper balance and performance. Like it or not, we have to toss the old shoes and buy new ones that fit us and serve us better so that the paths on which we walk will benefit us. Which path do you choose to walk upon? What sacrifices are you willing to make to create forward motion? What choices are you making for you today to promise a wealthy and happy tomorrow?

While our economy may be experiencing a recession, it doesn’t mean that your mind and spirit need to fall into a slump as well.  I know it’s difficult sometimes; especially if you’re a worrywart, who constantly tunes into the six o’clock news to get status reports on the state of the Union. Put that aside for a moment.  I want you to focus on you. Throw away the external components of the world and take a long look at your life.  What are you doing to make your life more bearable; and beyond that, what are you doing to create happiness in your life? Following are five tips to overcome your feelings of insecurity in these sometimes-stressful times:

1. Don’t make mountains out of molehills. Many times, we become our worst own enemy because we begin to exaggerate our challenges. It’s easy to do when you allow yourself to become overwhelmed to the point of no return.  I imagine Chicken Little felt that way when he automatically assumed that the sky was falling.  Before you jump to extreme conclusions about your situation, you need to take a step backward and put your mind on rewind for a moment. Relax. Take different perspectives of your present condition.  Ask yourself:

•    How did I arrive at this place?
•    What options do I have at this point?
•    What talents, tools, or skills do I have at my disposal?
•    What are my goals?
•    What goals are achievable?
•    What plan of action do I have to achieve these goals?

After you’ve asked yourself these questions, I want you to take out a journal, notebook, or paper pad – whatever you have at your disposal; and begin jotting down ideas and answers to those questions.  When you use your intuitive powers, you will be amazed at the resolutions you can come up with on your own. It’s really not rocket science; you just have to use your inner wisdom and god-given abilities to make lemonade out of lemons.

2. Embrace the challenge. How often have you been asked to perform a task that you thought was humanly impossible?  Actually, there aren’t too many things we humans can’t do in life.  It all depends on the mentality we have, and how we perceive the challenge to be. I know you’ve heard the old adage about the two individuals looking out of the same window: one sees the darkness, the other the stars. What do you see when you look out your proverbial window of life?  Do you see darkness cloaking your view, or do you see the light from the stars to light your way?

When faced with challenges, rise to the occasion.  That means you’re going to have to put some effort behind your motivation.  Anyone can talk the talk, but you have to walk the walk to get anywhere in life.  If you are facing a crisis, I want you to use all of your senses – including your intuitive perception. What does this remarkable sense have to do with your ability to embrace challenge?  When you are fully in tune with your physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual nature of life, you can see more clearly, achieve balance, and pave the way through the darkness to achieve a positive outcome.

3. Don’t toss out the baby with the kitchen sink. Do what? How many ideas and plans do you have? Have any of them worked for you in the past?  If not, why not? You see, too often we have great ideas but because they didn’t work in the past, we simply give up on them.  Don’t do it.  Instead of focusing on your failures, I want you to focus on your success. But if I didn’t succeed in the past, why should I try again, you ask? When at first you don’t succeed – try, try again. Remember the story about The Little Engine that Could?  Become that motivated engine and redraft your plans and ideas so you can get them right.  You may just have to tweak this or that to make it work for you.  If you’ve failed in the past, reflect on that failure and use the experience and knowledge you’ve gained from that occurrence to redirect your energy and action.

4. Listen for opportunity. Opportunity constantly knocks in your life, are you listening? I don’t ever get an opportunity, my life is full of misery – you say? Well, if you continue to think that way, I can guarantee that you won’t have any opportunities.  By thinking negatively, you are blocking the Universal flow of energy and disrupting the natural pattern of positive vibrational flow.

I wonder if Benjamin Franklin ever thought, “No, I can’t tie the key to the kite string because it won’t work.” Franklin believed in his experiment, and because he felt confident, he was able to prove the theory of the identity of lightning and electricity. You are an incredible being, as unique as each hair on your head. What are you going to do to make a difference in your life and the world? Hone in on your inner wisdom to fully hear and see the rewards that life is offering you.  Rest your mind and your soul so you can truly get a birds-eye view on the opportunities that exist in your present pathway. I promise you, opportunities are waiting to be discovered if you only open your mind.

5. Gain clarity in your life by developing your intuitive powers. By now you already know that your intuitive powers are key to overcoming your insecurities and achieving greatness in your life; but you must first fine-tune your intuition so you can gain clarity in your life. Today, there are many ways to empower your intuition and make it work dramatically for you. Some of those ways are through meditation, strategic visioning, and thru the Manifestation Method.  In addition, there are a lot of guided meditation CDs that can help you create balance in your life so you can gain insight into what you need to do overcome your anxiety and fears to achieve success.

Perhaps we’re not all artists, authors, or celebrities, but we all share one common bond — we all imagine and aspire to be greater and want to achieve greatness in this lifetime. Achieving greatness begins with imagination, and following through on the visualizations that we create within our minds.

Allow your imagination to become your guiding light toward your destiny.  Explore the many windows of your mind to define and form the vision that you want to realize in your life. When you have found what it is you are truly seeking, paint your plane of view with the many objects of your heart’s desires.  For some, the conceived vision may be a new job, a home, a relationship, or maybe even becoming the president of the United States — whatever that vision is, you must imagine it, believe it, and follow through on it to fulfill your destiny.

Manifesting the power of the mind is how all great ideas and goals have been accomplished throughout the history of mankind. Become your own da Vinci by putting your imagination to work for you. Because turning thoughts into milestones, and milestones into reality is the power of visualization at work.

The first important step to achieving prosperity and happiness in your life is to realize that you hold the key to your destiny. Did you know that you have the innate ability to tap into your intuitive powers? When you do, your vision becomes your goal, and your goals become reality.

How? Put your plan for success into action by drawing a mind map. Use whatever medium you have available — pens, crayons, markers, etc. Draw a circle and put your ultimate goal within that circle. You can write out the word, draw out a symbol; whatever you choose. For example, if you want to buy a new home, you can draw a square with a roof — nothing fancy or elaborate, just something that symbolizes what it is that you want. Off to the side, draw out lines to other actions, thoughts, and words that accentuate and embolden your goal. For instance, if it is a house you want, write action words like “build” and “own.” Other symbols that reflect this particular goal might include dollar signs ($), bricks, and open doors or windows.

The next critical step is to visualize and meditate on the goals you want to achieve. The more you do, the higher you raise your expectations, and the more effectively you work toward achieving your goals. What’s more, when you put these intuitive powers and plans into action for you, you begin to see and realize more goals in your life. By planting the foundation for long-term change in your life, you begin to transform your life into a healthier, happier, and more prosperous one.

To discover your true destiny, you must first explore what it is that you want out of life.  If you desire prosperity and happiness, you need to initiate two key elements:  intuition and motivation — the rest comes naturally.

Using your inner wisdom, focus on your past and the current course of your life.  Where have you been, and in what direction are you headed at this moment?  Think carefully now.  All this time, for what have you been striving?  If you’re pining to become a teacher, a doctor, a singer, an expeditionist, a sports athlete, a parent, a homeowner, business owner, or a ballet dancer…what’s stopping you?  What have you done to become the person you want to be?

You discover your destiny by looking within your heart to find out who you really are, and who you want to become.  Like an intuitive angler, cast out your line and “fish” for your heart’s desires.  You might be surprised at the catch you land.

If your destiny is to lead the lifestyle of dreams, then you must begin to play the part by designing your outcome.  Tap into your higher consciousness so you can realize your potential; and begin to truly explore the sea of opportunities that lie affront of you, and all around you.  That’s how destinies are discovered and made.  The rest is up to you.
